I love that this post is following after the post featuring Hunter because the Pavolonys have known Hunter I think as long as I have! Connor and Hunter played baseball together for several years and their dads are good friends. When Mike asked me to take his kids' senior pictures and told me he had a son and daughter who are twins I couldn't wait for our session! Being able to do pictures for this brother and sister was a lot of fun and I'm glad they both wanted something similar outside. Though their personalities are obviously very different they both have a love for the outdoors. One of the challenges was how to reveal both of their personalities in a single session. At the end of the day, I felt like I still really wanted to spend some one on one time with each of them to focus on them individually so I scheduled separate shorter sessions with both of them for later. The benefit, however, of having a shoot with both of them was being able to get some pictures of them together!
My favorite pictures of Morgan were taken during her separate session! We had more time without feeling rushed and we were able to get some shots of her with her Jeep and with her gear since she plays lacrosse for River Ridge High School. She's so beautiful and has a gorgeous smile and I love her effortless style! She made it look easy to be in front of the camera. I'm hoping to get a chance to have her model for me for at least one other session before she heads to college to study pre-med.
Below her pictures is some information about the Shepherd Center since she wants to specialize in neurology!
The Shepherd Center was founded in 1975 after James Shepherd sustained a spinal cord injury and he and his parents found there were no good rehabilitation centers in the Southeast. I have two friends who are personally connected to Shepherd Center: Jamie Goodwin and Kathy Davis. Jamie was a patient there in 1993 the summer before her senior year of high school when an auto accident with friends left her paralyzed. Her best friend, Kathy, began working at the Shepherd Center after college because she wanted to make a difference in other people's lives the way the Shepherd Center had for Jamie. Jamie had this to say about the center, "Shepherd is life-giving when it seems your life is falling apart. They make the challenges of wheelchair life become more and more easy with how they approach physical, occupational, recreational, and even emotional therapy. I loved every minute of my 2.5 month stay at Shepherd, even the hard moments. Shepherd has forever changed my life...for the better!"
As a not-for-profit hospital, Shepherd Center relies on donations from businesses, organizations and from individuals. In addition to providing rehab they also provide a place for patients' families to stay close by. Harold Shepherd says this in the video below and it really moved me, " It's been forty years. We've had a few bumps in the road but you're gonna do that if you're gonna do anything worthwhile." I fully expect Morgan to be making a big difference in patients' lives as a neurosurgeon one day!
