I'll be taking a picture every day this year - a 365 Project. I've tried tackling a 365 Project a couple of times over the years. Last year I only made it January 22. One year I made it all the way to August but the pictures got lost in a computer crash!
A 365 Project is good for several reasons:
1. Daily practice will help me improve my skills! Just like with an instrument or a sport, regular practice helps hone your craft or skill. The simple act of picking up my camera each day and taking a picture will help me develop a habit of evaluating my light, white balance and composition on a regular basis.
2. I'll be capturing more personal memories! When my children were small and home with me during the day it was easier and natural to take pictures of them often. Now that they're mostly teens and at school or work, I have fewer opportunities to document our days. But these days and memories are just as important to me! Maybe this will help me feel like it's not going by so quickly if I manage to snap a picture every day instead of letting them slip by.
3. I'm showing my kids that they're important to me! As a photographer and business owner, I have gotten in a bad habit of only taking pictures of clients. I want my kids to know that they are much more important to me than my job and if I am taking time to take pictures for other people why wouldn't I be taking the time to do so for my own family?
Each month I'll be posting the last month's pictures here and nearly every day I'm posting on my personal Instagram account if you want to follow along there!
